About carpet beetles
The most common carpet beetle encountered is the variegated carpet beetle and the black carpet beetle.
Adult carpet beetles are 5mm long and oval shaped
Eggs are laid in undisturbed areas.
Eggs typically hatch after 14-28 days.
Larvae will feed for 9 months before pupating.
Pupating takes 2-3 weeks before emerging as an adult
Adults live for 3-5 weeks.
Larvae feed on materials of animal origin but not limited tofabrics, carpets, rugs, felts, animal carcasses, bee and wasp nests, and some stored foods.
Larvae droppings look like sand.
Adults are pollen and nectar feeders. Generally come in through an open window or brought in through flowers.
